Off-white 7.5 x 9.5 sheet bearing two bold and historic ink signatures: "Yours truly, U. S. Grant, Lt. Gen. U.S.A.," and "Yrs truly, O. O. Howard, Maj. Gen." In fine condition. President Lincoln promoted Grant to the rank of lieutenant general on March 10, 1864; he held the position until 1869, when he took office as president.
