Flown scissors and strap carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Casper during the historic Apollo 16 moon-landing mission. The stainless steel surgical-type scissors measure 8.25˝ in length and were manufactured by Weck, with the part number and serial number, "SDB42100059-202" and "S/N 1033," printed near the hinge on one side, and "Weck U.S.A. Stainless" engraved on the handle, which is tied with a brown knotted strap (rope), approximately 27˝ in length, that ends with a plastic tab and female-snap button, stamped with part number “SDB 42100118-702” and serial number “1050.” In fine condition, with good spring tension.
Both the scissors and the strap include their original yellow “Temporary Parts Removal Tag” from the Space Division at the North American Rockwell Corporation marked as “PFT S/C113,” listing them as “Scissors” and “Scissors Strap,” with identical inspection dates of May 12, 1972, and matching part and serial numbers. Both are stamped as “ASHUR 113000.”
