Letter to legendary actress and filmmaker Ida Lupino, in full: “Thank you so much for your expression of confidence. It was a tough campaign, but we are thankful for so many blessings – among them our family and millions of wonderful supporters like you. We have the satisfaction of having given it our best, but clearly victory was not to be. Barbara and I will always be grateful for the privilege that we have had of serving the American people.” Bush adds in his own hand at the conclusion, "Thanks so much." In very fine condition. This letter dates to a little over two weeks after the 1992 United States presidential election, when Democratic candidate Bill Clinton defeated the Republican ticket of incumbent president George Bush and vice president Dan Quayle; the election marked the end of 12 consecutive years of Republican rule of the White House.
