Description

Vintage Hyatt contractor model of the Apollo Command and Service Module, deriving from the estate of Jack E. Davis, Director of Ground Support Operations during the NASA Apollo Program

Vintage 1:40 scale contractor model of the Apollo Command and Service Module with launch escape assembly at the top, standing approximately 21˝ tall, set upon a black plastic base, reading: "North American Rockwell Corporation, Apollo Spacecraft," with a "W. J. Hyatt, Inc." maker's label affixed to the underside. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light wear, including chips to paint and decals, scuffs and markings to the Service Module, and a circular mark to the base.

Originates from the personal collection of Jack E. Davis, who served as Director of Ground Support Operations during the NASA Apollo Program. In this senior leadership role, Davis reported directly to Christopher C. Kraft, Jr., the pioneering Director of Flight Operations and architect of Mission Control. Working under a NASA contract through Singer- Link, Davis oversaw the mission-critical ground support and simulation systems used for astronaut training and spacecraft readiness across Apollo missions 8 through 17. His responsibilities placed him at the operational center of spacecraft verification, mission rehearsal, and launch preparation during the most demanding years of the lunar program.

Contractor models of this type were produced in limited quantities for internal NASA use, engineering reference, and executive display. Examples with direct, documented provenance to senior Apollo Program leadership are exceptionally scarce.
