Description

TLS, one page, 6 x 9, personal Research and Engineering Consultants, Inc. letterhead, 1972. Letter to an admirer, in full: “I would like to extend to you my very warmest appreciation for the note you sent in response to Wayne Warga's and my recent newspaper article. Our goal was to tell my story sincerely. We feel that this story, which we are now expanding into a book to be published in the spring of 1973, is answering my obligation to the millions around the world who shared with me that one brief moment when all the world was one. Your thoughtful response did much to convince me that my decision to speak out was correct. I thank you.” Aldrin adds a handwritten postscript below: “I was completely recovered last Dec.” In fine condition.

In a Los Angeles Times article from February 27, 1972, journalist Wayne Warga profiled moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, focusing on his struggles adjusting to life after the Apollo 11 moon landing. The piece explored the emotional and professional challenges Aldrin faced following his historic achievement. Warga later co-authored Aldrin’s 1973 memoir, Return to Earth, which expanded on those post-mission struggles, including depression and alcohol issues.
