DS, signed "Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr.," "William A. Anders," "Charles A. Bassett II," "Alan L. Bean," "Eugene A. Cernan," "Roger B. Chaffee," "Michael Collins," "Ronnie W. Cunningham," "Donn F. Eisele," "Theodore C. Freeman," "Richard F. Gordon, Jr.," "Russell L. Schweickart," "David R. Scott," and "Clifton C. Williams, Jr.," five pages, 8.5 x 13, March 2, 1964. Agreement in which the entire class of NASA Astronaut Group 3 agree to be represented by Harry A. Batten as their agent. In part: "Whereas the above named…Astronauts have been selected to train for participation in Projects Gemini, Apollo and other Space Flight Projects of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (hereinafter referred to as NASA), and…[the] Astronauts and their families have valuable rights to stories of their personal experiences in connection with these Projects, including their personal stories of their space flights…[the] Astronauts have selected and hereby appoint Harry A. Batten to represent them in the sale of the rights they may have arising out of the Projects." Signed at the conclusion in ink by the 14 astronauts, and also signed by Batten and their wives: Joan Ann Aldrin, Valerie Elizabeth Anders, Jean Martin Bassett, Sue Ragsdale Bean, Barbara Jean Cernan, Martha Horn Chaffee, Patricia Mary Collins, Loella Cunningham, Harriet Elaine Eisele, Faith Clark Freeman, Barbara Field Gordon, Clare Whitefield Schweickart, and Anne Lurton Scott. In fine condition.
These agreements were legacy of the Time-Life personal story contracts in which the astronauts were allowed to profit from their personal stories—as opposed to their official NASA stories, which were freely given out. An amazing assemblage of astronaut autographs, highlighted by seven lunar voyagers (including four moonwalkers), and made all the more rare by the early deaths of Chaffee, Bassett, Freeman, and Williams, each of whom made the ultimate sacrifice and lost his life in service to the space program.
The Richard Jurek Collection.
