Description

"The crew used this flown Apollo 17 CSM Lunar Landmark Map to study the Moon from lunar orbit"

Flown 8 x 10.5 lunar mapping plate from the the CSM Lunar Landmark checklist carried on Apollo 17, with a provenance label from the "Eugene A. Cernan Space Collection" affixed to the reverse, signed in black felt tip, "Gene Cernan." The label notes: "The crew used this flown Apollo 17 CSM Lunar Landmark Map to study the Moon from lunar orbit, Gene Cernan." Printed on heavy photographic stock, the plate was used by the Apollo 17 crew to identify features of the western part of the Moon as they were to be observed in Earthshine: an "Earthshine Limits" line for Revolution 1 passes right through the crater Grimaldi. In fine condition.
