Description

Flown American flag carried on the Skylab space station during Skylab 4, 5.75 x 4, affixed to a 14 x 11 presentation certificate, signed at the bottom in ink by Johnson Space Center director Christopher C. Kraft, Jr. The certificate reads: "Presented to William Kelly, Jr., In appreciation of your service on the Goddard Space Flight Center team, helping to make possible the successful flight and operation of history's first manned space station. This flag was carried aboard Skylab during its flight around the Earth. Skylab IV November 16, 1973–February 8, 1974." Housed in a presentation folder with NASA insignia applied to the front. In fine condition, with light uniform toning from the adhesive used to secure the flag to the certificate.

Carried on the Skylab 4 mission, this American flag completed 1214 orbits of Earth, traveling some 34,500,000 miles.
