Description

Swatch of 1.25˝ x .75˝ Kapton foil attested as flown on the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project by Ken Havekotte of SpaceCoast Cover Service, affixed to an 11 x 8.5 presentation certificate stamp-dated on the 20th anniversary of the mission's launch date, July 15, 1995. The certificate reads, in part: "The affixed swatch is an actual piece of the US. ASTP Command Module #111 spacecraft of AS-210 flown in space 136 orbits around the Earth on July 15-24, 1975. It was taken from the Command Module (CM) crew compartment heat shield after splashdown and is a very thin pressure-sensitive Kapton polyimide tape used for the spacecraft's thermal protection subsystem. The Kapton tape applied over the CM external ablator surface is coated with aluminum and oxidized silicon monoxide. Kapton was used as a thermal control requirement to help protect the Apollo spacecraft from extreme temperatures of outer space." In fine condition.

The Richard Jurek Collection.
