The flag is displayed on its impressive original 18˝-diameter wood and etched metal display plaque presented to legendary engineer George W. Jeffs, reading: "This NASA flag was flown aboard the Orbiter Discovery, STS-26, September 29–October 3, 1988. Presented to George W. Jeffs, In recognition and appreciation of your many innovative engineering and management contributions to the success of the United States space program," with the facsimile signature of Aaron Cohen, director of the NASA Johnson Space Center. The upper border is decorated with metallic insignia of the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and Space Shuttle programs. In fine condition.
George W. Jeffs was an influential Rockwell executive who led the development and manufacture of critical Apollo spacecraft components, serving as vice president and program manager of the Apollo Command and Service Module from 1969 to 1973. He became president of Rockwell International's North American Aerospace Operations in 1978, continuing to make contributions to spaceflight through the Space Shuttle era.
