Two flown music CDs—the Top Gun Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Dan Fogelberg's Super Hits—carried on the Space Shuttle Discovery during STS-103, complete with their flown inserts and jewel cases, both with labels affixed on the front: "STS-103, This item flew in space on the shuttle Discovery, 19–27 December 1999." The Top Gun CD is also signed and flight-certified in black felt tip, "Steve Smith, 12/99, Discovery." In overall fine condition, with some cracks and wear to the cases.
Accompanied by letters of authenticity signed by Mission Specialist 4 Steve Smith for each CD, in part: "STS-103 was a Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission aboard Discovery that was launched on December 19, 199 and returned to earth on December 27, 1999. I performed two 'Spacewalks' or EVAs outside to help repair and enhance the Hubble Space Telescope. In total, I spent sixteen hours and twenty-three minutes during the EVA's as EVA #1. This CD flew over 3.2 million miles during my downtime when I was not inside or outside of the orbiter."
In his letter for the Top Gun CD, he quotes lyrics from the Kenny Loggins hit 'Danger Zone'—an iconic song from an iconic soundtrack, flown aboard an iconic Hubble repair mission.
