Flown ISS Expedition 43 Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) space suit patch, 3.5˝ x 3.5˝, flown to the International Space Station for use by Scott Kelly in the event that he had to perform an unplanned spacewalk. The patch is embroidered with the mission insignia—the numeral "43" with imagery of the ISS orbiting Earth, surrounded by the names of the six crew members—and is backed by Velcro for application to the EMU suit. In fine condition.
Accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Scott Kelly, in part: "This letter certifies that the accompanying Expedition 43 Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit patch was flown on board the International Space Station.
Expedition 43, which began on March 11, 2015 and extended to June 11, 2015, was the first of four increments during the first year-long mission on the space station. The Expedition 43 crew included Gennady Padalka, Mikhail Korniyenko, and Anton Shkaplerov of Roscosmos, the Russian federal space agency; Samantha Cristoforetti of the European Space Agency (ESA); and Terry Virts and myself, representing NASA.
Though I was not scheduled to perform an extravehicular activity (EVA) during Expedition 43, this patch was flown to the space station in case a contingency, or unplanned, spacewalk was needed. Had it been used, it would have been attached by Velcro to the front of my spacesuit.
The Expedition 43 patch was returned to Earth, having never been used on a spacewalk, as a memento of my 340 days orbiting the planet."
