Flown Series 1953B two-dollar bill, serial number A70489989A, one of fifty carried on the Apollo 15 Command Module 'Endeavour,' signed on the reverse in black felt tip by Dave Scott, Al Worden, and Jim Irwin. Encapsulated and graded by PMG as "Choice Uncirculated 64," with the label noting the provenance: "Ex. Scott, Worden & Irwin / Flown Aboard Apollo 15, 1971 / Jefferson Space Museum Collection."
Complete with its original calligraphic certificate, also signed in black felt tip by Dave Scott, Al Worden, and Jim Irwin, in full: "This Two Dollar Federal Reserve Note, Serial Number A70489989A, was carried aboard Apollo 15 during the first extended Scientific Exploration of the Moon. Hadley Apennine, July 26-August 7, 1971." Also includes images of Scott and Worden holding the bill after being reunited with it at an Astronaut Scholarship Foundation gathering in November 2008.
This is one of fifty $2 bills carried into lunar orbit aboard the Apollo 15 Command Module Endeavour with CMP Al Worden while Dave Scott and Jim Irwin conducted their lunar surface operations at Hadley–Apennine. A separate cache of currency carried to the lunar surface was inadvertently left behind on the boon, where several $2 and $20 bills remain today. A choice, highly desirable example of Apollo-flown currency.
The Richard Jurek Collection.
