Description

Apollo 15 crew-signed dollar bill carried on the CM 'Endeavour'—one of 13 flown for ground support crew members

Flown Series 1969A one-dollar bill, serial number F90895897B, one of thirteen carried on the Apollo 15 Command Module 'Endeavour,' signed on the portrait side in black felt tip by Dave Scott, Jim Irwin, and Al Worden. In very fine condition.

Accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Boeing Crew Equipment Engineer Bob Horne, in part: "I hereby certify that the accompanying U.S, $1.00 bill with S/N F90895897B was flown to the moon on the Apollo 15 Command Module, 'Endeavor,' during its historic trip to the moon in 1971. The bill was carried aboard the mission by the crew in their PPKs on my behalf, and has remained in my possession since its return from the Moon. This bill was signed by Apollo 15 astronauts Dave Scott, Al Worden and Jim Irwin at the final bench review prior to being stowed on the spacecraft.

I was the Boeing Crew Equipment Engineer assigned to the Flight Crew Support Team at KSC providing Flight Crew Directorate Representative (FCDR) support for the CM and LM at the time. In addition to my FCDR duties, I was also responsible for gathering, tagging, inventorying, and packing the crewmembers PPK's. I carefully packed this bill along with 12 other signed bills in PPK S/N 1177 and it was stowed in the CM where it remained throughout the mission.

Bills flown on these missions were all carefully identified by serial number, and they were protected so they remained in uncirculated, crisp condition. After the historic flight this bill was returned to me by Apollo 15 CMP Al Worden, and has remained in my personal astronaut signed and flown bill collection since that time."

Also includes a photocopy of Al Worden's letter from December 13, 1971, detailing the thirteen dollars he flew, by serial number, which includes this bill.
