Description

Unflown sterling silver STS-1 Robbins medallion, approximately 1.5˝ in diameter, with a raised design on the face featuring the mission insignia for the Space Shuttle Columbia's inaugural flight. The reverse is encircled by the names of the astronauts, John Young and Bob Crippen, and is engraved with the launch date of April 12, 1981, and landing date of April 14, 1981. The medallion is serial numbered "351" on the edge, and stamped with the Robbins "Sterling" hallmark. Condition is mint state. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by John Young, in part: "I hereby certify that STS 1 silver Robbins Medal, serial number 351, although not flown, is a genuine Robbins Medal and has been a part of my personal collection since the mission."
