Description

Actor (1899-1973) who, after appearing in a string of westerns, became better known as Frankenstein's monster after Boris Karloff declined to continue the role. Vintage glossy 8.25 x 10 photo of Glenn Strange as Frankenstein’s Monster, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “For Blackie, Glenn Strange.” In fine condition, with some light streaking to the emulsion.

Glenn Strange began playing Frankenstein’s monster in 1944 after Universal make-up artist Jack Pierce noticed that his 6'4" height and facial features were ideal for the role. Cast in House of Frankenstein (1944), he took over the part originated by Boris Karloff, who personally coached him after hours. Strange reprised the role in House of Dracula (1945) and again in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). Strange later said that Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein was one of the most enjoyable experiences of his career.
