STS-95, launched aboard Space Shuttle Discovery on October 29, 1998, is best known for carrying John Glenn, who returned to space 36 years after becoming the first American to orbit Earth on Mercury-Atlas 6. At age 77, Glenn served as a payload specialist, participating in medical and aging-related experiments designed to compare the effects of spaceflight on older astronauts with earlier data from his 1962 mission.
