- RR Auction’s January Fine Autographs and Artifacts sale celebrates the creative forces of Art, Literature, and Classical Music with exceptional original works by history’s most influential minds. Highlights include Rudyard Kipling’s hand-corrected typed manuscript for “The King’s Ankus,” a crown jewel of The Jungle Book; Louisa May Alcott’s handwritten manuscript for “Jerseys, or, The Girls’ Ghost”; and a rare autograph musical manuscript signed by Franz Schubert for “Das Grab,” a haunting meditation long thought lost. The sale also features an exceedingly rare document signed by Thomas Wyatt, the poet who introduced the sonnet to English literature, and a handwritten draft by Paul Gauguin exploring Symbolist art and the masters Rembrandt and Raphael. Additional highlights span world and cultural history, including a Louisiana Purchase–era letter signed by Pierre-Clément de Laussat, Malcolm X’s original 1944 Boston mug shot, and an expansive Rebel Without a Cause archive with more than 400 early draft pages, including Stewart Stern’s handwritten first-draft screenplay.
